Mabic, Maranello Biblioteca Cultura (Maranello Culture Library)

2006_mabic

In 2006, the new Mabic library of Maranello was built, designed by Arata Isozaki in line with the restyling of the Ferrari factory.

During the years when the Ferrari Citadel took shape thanks to names such as Fuksas, Nouvel and Visconti, passion for next generation architectures went beyond the boundaries of the factory itself. In 2006, when the Prancing Horse had already renewed most of his production buildings, a project had taken shape to renovate the public library.

The new structure was called Mabic, Maranello Biblioteca Cultura (Maranello Culture Library) and was designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. Its forms embody the concepts of brightness and transparency as well as the presence of natural elements that characterize also the restyling of the Ferrari factory.

The Mabic looks like an island surrounded by transparent surfaces of water and ivy-coated walls. Large windows allow natural light to illuminate the spaces within. 55 years since the opening of the first Maranello library, the institution is renewed making it a multifunctional area that can provide for cultural activities and mix the wonders of books with those of modern architecture.
